Rustic Charm in Apache Junction

Rustic charm was elevated with this gentle renovation. The charming but rugged design elements in our clients’ old-world style motif carried your eye fluently in any direction. Until that is, the blunt encounter at the kitchen hood.  Our client's wish was to remove the eyesore and replace it with a rustic custom creation that tied into all the warm and earthy elements in the home.  The polished black granite counters and tumbled travertine backsplash were also necessary to address as the maintenance of both was daunting.

Rustic Charm Begins With The Fireplace

The fireplace boldly centered on the farthest wall of the living area in this open-concept space, served as the inspiration for the new hood design. Positioned directly opposite the hood vent with a masonry assembly of natural river rock and concrete it brings a raw, assertive element indoors from some of the homes’ exterior design features. A rich-brown pine mantel softens its discernable presence, its textural wood grain and stain color inspired the new hood mantel.  We selected a large piece of pine for custom fabrication, it was cut to size and sanded smooth.  We love the visible texture that maintains the rustic natural design concept within the home. The stain color, a saturated medium Van Dyke Brown, complements the other natural wood elements within the home.

A custom-brushed stainless-steel plate creates the base of the stone above, concealing all the “magic” hidden behind it.  The brushed finish complements the ventilation unit perfectly, they fit so precisely with one another, that it's as if they are one piece.

The glossy black granite countertop of the island had a glaring polished finish which made it hard to keep looking clean across the large expanse.  The new leathered granite countertop and tile backsplash blend seamlessly into the background of this rustic design.

The modern use of metal with veneer stone and a custom mantel, coupled with creative craftsmanship and construction ingenuity, created this one-of-a-kind focal point. The soft texture of the leathered granite island is a subtle backdrop without the glare.  The texture of the new backsplash complements the stone of the hood without the maintenance.  As not to be outdone, the new sink and faucets are beautiful accessories for the overall renovation.  Our greatest compliment comes from a client beaming with excitement at the end of a remodel stating, “It looks like it was always supposed to be this way”.
