For this Ahwatukee addition project, our homeowners asked us to design and build a mother-in-law addition that was just large enough for a small kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom. Some of the other considerations we had were that this addition needed to look good from the exterior as well as the interior and it also needed to be flexible enough to be functional now and later, even if a wheelchair is needed.
Once we gathered all the design requirements, we were able to use our NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry) Universal Design training to make sure the space had proper accessibility heights and clearances throughout. Our 3D computer program made it easy for us to present our design plan for the homeowners’ approval.
Our mother-in-law addition ended up being 650 square feet and looked identical to our original design. If you would like an addition similar to this one, you’ll need a budget of $140,000 to $170,000.
