1938 Spanish Revival Remodel
First of all, this home is located in the fabulous Willo Historical District. However, the existing closed-off kitchen was far from fabulous! Consequently, our clients wanted a more open feel for their 1938 Spanish Revival Remodel. That way, they would be able to enjoy their guests whenever they entertained. As it was, they felt cut-off and confined in the small kitchen.
we can help…
Our Kitchen & Bath designer solved that issue by creating an arched pass-through between the kitchen and the living room. Also, she had two walls shortened to a pony wall height. Now, this allows the kitchen to feel a little more open to the dining room and adds a place for guests to rest their drinks. Most importantly, they are now able to either sit at the pass-through or hang out near the pony walls to converse with their host in the kitchen. Since this space was originally lacking in storage space, we were asked to add cabinets wherever possible. Our designer specified 42″ upper cabinets, taking them to the ceiling in order to maximize storage space. Then she added crown molding to give height to the room. As a result, white Shaker style cabinets, four with glass panel inserts and a white quartz countertop help to keep an airy feel in this small kitchen. The marble backsplash coordinates with the cabinets, counters and the gray from the appliances, tying the space together.
next, the appliances…
Another wish from our clients was a wine captain to store and display their wine collection. We were able to add an under counter unit that holds over 40 bottles of wine. In addition, it has an interior light to show off their collection. Then, our homeowners bought some new appliances, including a hood to go over the gas range. A new built-in microwave drawer frees up the very limited counter space. Rather than purchasing all new appliances, they were able to reuse their existing dishwasher and refrigerator. Finally, the biggest challenge in this project; the extremely long lead time (2-3 months) for the 36″ gas range coming from Italy! This 1938 Spanish Revival Remodel is just what our homeowner asked for.
